Dan Doherty is a senior vice president with TheWadeGroup, Inc. and offers a wealth of public affairs and corporate communications experience. Doherty’s crisis and issues management expertise and media relations counsel have guided the successful efforts of a wide variety of corporate, association and nonprofit clients. In addition to his client responsibilities, Doherty oversees TheWadeGroup’s operations and finances.

Doherty has extensive corporate communications experience, having counseled high-profile organizations on customer, investor, community, government and labor relations, including both union organizing and decertification campaigns. In addition, Doherty also has extensive experience related to food manufacturing and nutrition issues, and has counseled on market recalls and withdrawals in both the United States and Canada.

Doherty is currently the client leader for a leading food manufacturer, working closely with the company’s senior executives to develop and implement communications strategies to protect the company from potential issues and crises that threaten its brands and market share. In addition to his food industry expertise, Doherty provides public affairs counsel to a variety of health care clients facing regulatory and legislative issues in Washington through TheWadeGroup’s partnership with a strategic marketing public relations firm.

Before joining TheWadeGroup, Doherty was an account supervisor at Cohn & Wolfe in Washington, D.C. While there, he played an instrumental role in the ongoing efforts of a major international firm to increase public support for genetically modified foods. He was integral to several of the firm’s successful global efforts to counter negative claims made by opponents of the issue. Doherty also developed a crisis plan and response manual for an international mining company, and researched and identified potentially controversial issues facing the U.S. Census Bureau. His work resulted in the development of an issues management manual to guide the bureau in the face of a potential crisis.

Prior to joining Cohn & Wolfe, Doherty worked as the special assistant to the convention manager at the 1996 Republican National Convention.

Doherty earned a Master of Business Administration at the R.H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland. He also attended Providence College, receiving his bachelor’s degree in political science in 1995 and completing an extensive labor relations program. Doherty resides in Silver Spring, Md., with his wife and three sons.
